Current visa holders: You may not need to meet every new requirement during 2026 and 2027. Renewal decisions vary by individual circumstances. Some current holders are being refused, so we recommend a case-by-case review at least six months before your renewal date.

Do you currently hold a Business Manager Visa?

Do you currently have a corporation in Japan?

If you operate through a registered Japan branch or are unsure how your entity is treated, choose the third option.

Do you have at least, or close to, ¥30,000,000 through a combination of cash, tangible assets, intangible assets, or documented investment commitments?

The evidence and treatment of each category can depend on how the business and investment are structured.

Do you have a physical office in Japan?

A qualifying office generally needs to be a physical, private, and separately identifiable workspace. Virtual offices and open shared spaces are not normally accepted.

Do you have one full-time employee who is a Japanese national or qualifying long-term resident?

A person working under a standard employee visa does not count for this requirement.

Do you have a native Japanese staff member or a foreign employee with JLPT N2 Japanese or higher?

The language requirement must be met through a qualifying member of the business team.

Do you have three or more years of business management experience or a relevant postgraduate degree?

A relevant master’s, doctoral, or professional postgraduate degree may provide an alternative to the experience route.
